The United States (US) Embassy in Ghana has released statistics on visa applications received from Ghanaians in 2024.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, the embassy stated that it received a total of 61,000 visa applications last year from individuals seeking to study, work, or visit the United States.

At a processing fee of $160 for non-petition-based non-immigrant visas, this figure translates to approximately $9.76 million spent by Ghanaians on visa applications in 2024.

The Consular General at the US Embassy, Elliot Fertik, disclosed this while addressing journalists at an event held in Accra on Friday, May 9, 2025. He revealed that out of the 61,000 applications, 25,000 visas were issued to Ghanaian applicants.

He noted that the remaining 36,000 applications were either denied or left incomplete.

“We continue to welcome visitors from Ghana who are interested in studying, investing, or doing business in the US. Last year, the US Embassy issued 25,000 visas to Ghanaians for work, study, or tourism. However, all visa applicants and holders must follow US laws,” Fertik said.

He also issued a strong caution against illegal migration, emphasising the consequences for those who attempt to enter or remain in the US unlawfully.

“The US has zero tolerance for illegal immigration. Those who break the rules will face the law, including visa refusals or outright bans from entering the United States,” he warned.
