We Wish To Go Back To Our Hometown – Kaduna’s Displaced People Scream For Help.

IDPs in Chikun, Kajuru, Brinin Gwari, and Zangon Kataf have pleaded with government officials at all levels to intercede in their case so that they might go back to their villages.

Homeless people from the villages of Malmo, Garu, Gbagyi Rumana, and Badna in Birnin Gwari LGA, as well as Ungwan Boka, Araha 1 and 2 in Kajuru local government, have been living in tents for about two years.

The displaced people of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area have fled to Samaru Kataf, Zonkwa, while others have gone to families in distant areas, leaving their damaged villages for fear of the unknown.

When representatives from the Resilient Aid and Dialogue Initiative (RADI), a non-governmental organization (NGO), brought food and clothing to them, the IDPs said that they fled their towns when threats began in 2019 and that they would gladly return if the uninhabited communities could be fully secured.

In the own words of a father of five: “We want to go back to our farms, instead of waiting like beggars for people to come and bring food to us.”

Reuben Buhari and Alheri Magaji, co-founders of RADI, who escorted other volunteers to provide relief items to IDP camps like Goningora and Rimau, noted that the predicament of the IDPs required immediate assistance from the government and other citizens.

They pointed out that the people are in desperate need during the harmattan season, with all of its concomitant discomforts.
