A dozen people have been rushed to hospital after a serious crash between a mini-bus and a car on a busy Queensland highway.
Multiple ambulance crews were called to the Smithfield Bypass in Smithfield, Cairns at about 10.40am on Wednesday.
Twelve people were triaged by paramedics with several suffering serious injuries.

One patient had to be extracted from the bus after the crash, while four people are reportedly in critical conditions.
The Smithfield Bypass remains closed in both directions.
