Too much insults responsible for Kumawood’s struggles

Ghanaian actor Mr. Beautiful, has blamed the excessive use of insults in Kumawood movies as one of the reasons for the industry’s decline.

In an interview on Accra-based Joy Prime, he revealed that he had raised concerns about the issue of insults in Kumawood movies and advised producers and stakeholders to be cautious, but his warnings were ignored.

“I told them that in Kumasi, particular insults that are considered normal to the people cannot be applied to those in the Greater Accra and Coastal regions; there are big insults.

“So, I told them that the way we’re packaging insults and selling them to the world will affect us, so we should be careful. But they ignored,” he stated.

Mr. Beautiful, whose real name is Clement Bonney noted that the rampant use of insults in Kumawood films led to Ghanaians living abroad to prevent their children from watching such movies.

This, he noted, has also discouraged foreigners and even Ghanaian residents from watching Kumawood films, eventually affecting the industry’s reputation and reach.
