Tension in Tarkwa as NSA locks TNA stadium after clash with Municipal Assembly

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has locked down the newly constructed Tarkwa-Na-Aboso stadium following a clash with the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly (TMA) over the management of the venue.

According to GhanaSoccernet, the local assembly has raised concerns about the NSA’s poor management of the venue a month after the inauguration and has thus begun an effort to take over.

The reports indicated that malfunctioning washrooms, broken pipes, and a deteriorating pitch triggered the assembly’s intention to claim management.

The threat from the assembly, led by Chief Executive Benjamin Kessie, has prompted the NSA to lock the stadium, blocking access to the facility.

NSA Deputy Director Majeed Bawa has insisted that they hold sole control of the venue; hence, any changes would require an official process.

The Tarkwa-Na-Aboso (TNA) stadium is the home venue for Ghana Premier League side Medeama.

It is a modern 12,000-seater-capacity stadium constructed by Goldfields Ghana, the headline sponsor of Medeama.

The stadium was commissioned in August and hosted its first competitive fixture on September 8, 2024, when Medeama beat Accra Lions 1-0 to kick-start their season.
