Telstra moves its call centres back to Australia and hires thousands of new local workers to appease customers

Telstra has listened to customer feedback and relocated its call centres back to Australia, hiring thousands of local staff in the process.

The telecommunications giant announced the move on Tuesday, saying it has come after the company heard from customers ‘loud and clear’ they wanted the change.

Telstra employed more than 2000 new staff in recent months to prepare for the move, including Liz Patu, Australia’s most capped player for the Wallaroos, the national women’s rugy union team.

All of Telstra’s consumer and small business calls are now all being answered in Australia  in line the company’s T22 strategy designed to make life better for customers.

‘Our team are your neighbours. They’re located in cities and towns across Australia, including regional hubs like Maryborough, Bunbury and Bathurst,’ Telstra chief executive Andy Penn said.

‘Thanks to hybrid working, this means the person helping you could be in your state, suburb, town or – who knows – even your street.’
