Police have appealed for any witnesses to the fight, or anyone with CCTV footage of the area, to get in contact.

A close friend of the 16-year-old, Ashah Brown, told reporters at the scene of the incident on Friday morning that a dispute about an ex-girlfriend may have been the cause of the fight.

‘I’ve known him for years, he’s such a nice kid. He was so nice and everyone loved him and no one had no reason not to like him, Ms Brown told media.

‘He was just that good of a person.’

The 17-year-old boy was charged this morning and will appear in Maroochydore Childrens Court.

A Queensland Police press conference on Friday morning is expected to provide more detail on the tragic circumstances.
