‘Stop the Steal’ organizer Ali Alexander was seen on video promising members of two far right groups – the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys – that he would work with them during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, according to published reports.
The videos, which were uncovered by CNN after they were found on Periscope, show Alexander saying he’d talk to the two groups about providing security for the rally. He has become a prominent figure in the House of Representatives’ panel investigating the riot.
The Oath Keepers’ leader Stewart Rhodes and 10 other members were charged with sedition in relation to the storming of the Capitol, while dozens of members of the Proud Boys were also charged.
Alexander is also seen on one of the videos saying he’d rather see the White House struck by lightning and ‘burn down’ than see then President-elect Joe Biden live in it.
In one video, dated December 20, 2020, Alexander tells viewers that he was going to reach out to both groups.

‘Don’t worry, I’m gonna make sure so many people are so safe,’ he said. ‘It’s gonna make your head spin. I’m gonna try to make sure that every 15 minutes – so that you just know in your head, you don’t have to know in a map – that Metro stops are being patrolled.’
‘I’m gonna try to go that deep into it. I’m gonna talk to the Proud Boys. I’m gonna talk to the Oath Keepers and I’m gonna try to get patrols going, okay, of men that go for hours.’
Six days later in a video, Alexander said he spoke again to the Proud Boys to make sure they were covered for room and board for the event.
‘I’ll find you a room,’ Alexander said. ‘My team will find you a room. I talked tonight to the Proud Boys to make sure that they were all covered.’
Alexander himself has faced no charges and has denied any involvement on that day.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, then just an elect to Congress, was also referenced as a friend by Alexander
In December testimony before the panel, he said the evidence he offered them proved his innocence.
‘Anyone who suggests I had anything to do with the unlawful activities on January 6 is wrong. They’re either mistaken or lying,’ Alexander said in his opening statement to the committee on December 9.
Through his attorney, Baron Coleman, he denied working with the Proud Boys though he did say Alexander tried to help them with rooming arrangements, while the Oath Keepers provided security for Stop the Steal events.
Coleman also argued that Alexander was taken out of context in the videos and that he was joking and exaggerating.
‘Using tiny clips from the thousands of hours of extemporaneous speaking that Ali produced during the 2020 election cycle seems out of context and without regard to the truth,’ Coleman said in a statement. ‘All of Ali’s rallies, to this date, remain peaceful and without incident. All of the dozens of rallies he did, all peaceful, without incident. The other ones under his care post-Election Day; all peaceful and without incident.’

The videos, which were removed from Periscope mysteriously, show Alexander saying he was coordinating with Congressional Republicans including Representatives Paul Gosar, Mo Brooks and Andy Biggs in an attempt to overturn the 2020 Election, one of the main reasons behind the original rally and the reasoning behind Stop the Steal’s existence.
‘I’m the guy who came up with the idea of January 6th when I was talking with Congressman Gosar, Congressman Andy Biggs, and Congressman Mo Brooks,’ he said in a video on December 28, 2020. ‘So, we’re the four guys who came up with a January 6th event, hashtag ‘do not certify.’ And it was to build momentum and pressure, and then on the day change hearts and minds of Congresspeoples [sic] who weren’t yet decided or saw everyone outside and said, ‘I can’t be on the other side of that mob.”
He claimed again in a video on January 2 that Gosar, Brooks and Biggs were working with him to whip up votes in the House to contest the election.
Brooks and Biggs have previously both denied any work with Alexander in planning the attack. Neither Congressman nor Gosar has respond to requests for comment on these videos.
Also in that December 17 video, Alexander spoke about Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who at that point had been elected, as ‘a friend of mine’ who would help their efforts to object to the election results.
A spokesperson for Greene has denied any involvement.
