Reggae/Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has made a cryptic post on Facebook following the controversy surrounding the cancellation of a concert scheduled for June 18, 2024.
The issue started after the concert featuring dancehall artist Shatta Wale at James Top Nelson Yankah Hall (TF hostel) was cancelled, leading to a social media uproar.
Despite Shatta Wale’s anticipation and promotion for his performance, the university’s Dean of Students office did not approve the event.
Shatta Wale accused rival Stonebwoy of influencing the cancellation to prevent them from performing at the same venue.
The event’s organisers, Wave Africa, confirmed that they had been instructed not to allow Shatta Wale’s performance by an ‘order from above,’ despite having resolved earlier issues with the Dean’s office.
However, the Dean of Students at the University of Ghana, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten, stated that the university has no issues with Shatta Wale and the cancellation was not influenced by any external party.
In a post on his Facebook handle on June 11, 2024, Stonebwoy posted the Biblical verse, Proverbs ’19:9′ which when read, says “A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish.”
Many on social media interpreted the post as a subtle jab at those accusing him of being responsible for the cancellation of Shatta Wale’s concert.
Stonebwoy‘s event at Liman Hall, however, proceeded without issue, marking a successful night.
The controversy could be traced back to a past incident at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards, where both artistes were involved in a confrontation, leading to a police bond preventing them from sharing a venue.
