Sleepy lakefront town is named as America’s fastest growing suburb with homes under $500k


A sleepy lakefront town in North Carolina has been named the fast growing suburb in America as one can scoop up a new home for under $500,000. 

Mooresville is the fastest growing part of the Charlotte Metropolitan area with a population of 50,000, according to the town’s website

The quiet town, located near Lake Norman, is a only 25 miles out the big city and is best known for how many NASCAR racing teams and drivers have come from the place – earning it’s nickname ‘Race City USA.’ 

Outside of the its residents’ need for speed, it’s a nice place to settle down with home prices averaging around $480,500 as of July. 

The population of the town has grown nearly 30 percent in two years, jumping from 38,500 to 50,000 between 2020 and 2022, according to GoBankingRates, which ranked the towns.

Those who choose to settle in the Southern town can enjoy plenty of activities on nearby Lake Norman from boating to fishing to hiking. It also has farmer’s markets, a corn maze, and festivals to delight residents. 

Boat and water toy rentals are also available, as well as, cruising charters.  

Residents and tourists alike can enjoy an ‘ale trial’ but visiting tons of local breweries or even relaxing at one of the town’s many spas.

It’s also home to a Trump National Gold Club course.  

It is also home to NASCAR Technical Institute, the country’s first technical training school that blends complete automotive and motorsports technology. 

It also houses Team Penske’s NASCAR teams, as well as, IndyCar and ALMS teams. 

Mooresville also has a Hall of Fame for its racing famous and plenty of race car driving ventures. 

The town also made the list alongside Concord and Clayton.

GoBankingRates choose the cities on the list based on suburbs that had  home values below $500,000 and had a nine percent population growth between 2020 and 2022. 

Out of the 50 chosen, plenty came from Arizona, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, and Texas.  

The top five best places to move is Moorseville, Hamtramck, Michigan; Buckeye, Arizona; Union City, Georgia; and Canyon Lake, Texas. 

Some more recognizable cities also made the list, including Dearborn, Michigan; Brocton, Massachusetts; and Desert Hot Springs, California.
