Police are investigating the incident and said the remains of the horse are yet to be discovered

The rest of the horse’s remains are yet to be found.

The home is just a few hundred metres from a popular river front and playground reserve and aged care facility.

A neighbour said she woke to the sound of news crews on the street before another neighbour told her of the disturbing incident.

‘I hope they get the bastards that done it,’ she told The Advertiser.

Another neighbour said he had left for work from the quiet residential street at 6am unaware of what had happened.

‘It’s usually such a quiet street, that’s why I love living here,’ he said.

‘I’m shocked to think that’s happened here.’

The act of dumping a severed horses head has been known to be affiliated with underworld gang activity.

The act was made famous in a scene in the 1971 film The Godfather, where a corrupt movie producer wakes up to find a horse’s head in his bed.

Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting the incident has links to underworld crime.

More to come.
