Buruji Kashamu, born May 19, 1958, was a Nigerian politician who served as a Senator representing Ogun East in the 8th National Assembly.

He was born and raised in Ogun State where he hails from had his early education.

Senator Buruji Kashamu was the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on States and Local Government.

Early Life and Education

Senator Kashamu was born in Ijebu-Igbo Ogun State, in the South Western part of Nigeria.

He started his education at Ansarudeen Primary School, Ijebu Igbo and left in 1972 to complete his primary school at St. John Modern School, Lagos.

Senator Kashamu then attended evening classes at Igbobi College while working as a licensing agent.

He got admitted into Pitman College, London where he took courses in Business Management.

Senator Kashamu was awarded an honorary PhD by the unaccredited, diploma-mill Cambridge Graduate University, Massachusetts, the occasion was held in Lagos, Nigeria.

Career

Senator Buruji Kashamu contested the Ogun east senatorial seat under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and defeated his closest rival Prince Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

In 2019 he contested for the Ogun State gubernatorial election and lost against Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kashamu died on August 8, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Lagos as a result of complications caused by COVID-19. He died at the age of 62.
