During Monday’s GB News show, Daily Mail columnist Pierce branded Ms Turner ‘shameful’ after she called Brand ‘a hero’ on Twitter in the wake of allegations revealed in an investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches.

Pierce also said that Ms Turner was ‘behaving like an idiot’ after she continued to defend Brand amid the fallout.

The stand-up comic, 48, appeared on the talk show in 2013 and tried to flirt outrageously with the married actress, 39 – and it left her looking visibly uncomfortable.

Culture, Media and Sport Committee chairwoman said the group will be looking for the same ‘reassurance’ from the BBC which has been provided by Channel 4 in relation to the circumstances surrounding the allegations faced by Russell Brand.

Ms Dinenage told the BBC’s PM programme the committee would be examining ‘who knew what and when, and the extent to which any reports that happened at the time were investigated’.

A theatre in Windsor, Berkshire, has said it will refund customers who bought tickets to Russell Brand’s Bipolarisation show on Tuesday.

In a statement, the venue’s management said: ‘Theatre Royal Windsor will be offering ticket refunds in line with our terms and conditions of sale.’

A performance of Russell Brand’s Bipolarisation show due to go ahead on Tuesday at the Theatre Royal Windsor in Berkshire has been postponed.

The show’s promoters said in a statement: ‘We are postponing these few remaining addiction charity fundraiser shows, we don’t like doing it – but we know you’ll understand.’

He has been scheduled to perform at two more venues in September, including The Pavilions in Plymouth on Friday, and The Civic At The Halls in Wolverhampton next Thursday.

Russell Brand’s performance at the Theatre Royal Windsor tonight has been postponed, the theatre said.

Channel 4’s chief executive Alex Mahon said Channel 4’s Dispatches – Russell Brand: In Plain Sight was a ‘brave and important piece of journalism’ adding that it is ‘one that raises very serious questions for Channel 4 and many others in our industry.’

In an email sent to staff and seen by the PA news agency, she wrote: ‘You already know that I think it is critical that we eradicate all inappropriate and offensive behaviour in our industry, and that we always have a fair and supportive Channel 4 culture.

She added: ‘While the allegations our team has helped unearth are deeply disturbing, I hope they can ultimately lead to further positive change in our industry, and I am committed to ensuring we are at the forefront of that change.’

It is thought managers were locked in talks this morning about whether to go ahead with the sold-out show, with an announcement expected later today.

The Met said they have now received an allegation of sexual assault in Soho, central London, in 2003.

In a short statement, the force said: “On Sunday September 17, the Met received a report of a sexual assault which was alleged to have taken place in Soho in central London in 2003.

‘Officers are in contact with the woman and will be providing her with support.

‘We first spoke with The Sunday Times on Saturday September 16 and have since made further approaches to The Sunday Times and Channel 4 to ensure that anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual offence is aware of how to report this to the police.’

A MeToo moment in UK comedy erupted today in the midst of allegations against Russell Brand – as five more comics were named as potential ‘predators’.

The bombshell rape and abuse allegations blighting Russell Brand have made headlines far beyond British shores as international media speculate on the claims brought against the comedian, actor and political commentator.

Downing Street has declined to urge broadcasters and streaming platforms such as YouTube and Netflix to take down Russell Brand’s content.

No10 said that the broadcasters needed to make their own decisions and that the PM was not going to ‘dictate’ their actions.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: ‘It’s a decision for all broadcasters to consider the right approach in light of these very serious allegations. They are deeply concerning, they need to be investigated.

‘But I’m not going to dictate the actions of broadcasters or streaming services.’

Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer is expected to be speak to broadcasters about their investigations into Russell Brand at the next opportunity.

It was understood she will seek assurance that their investigations into allegations made against the comedian will be conducted thoroughly and transparently.

Downing Street has urged the BBC and Channel 4 to set out the results of their investigations into Russell Brand ‘transparently’.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: ‘It’s right that this is looked into and I think both of the broadcasters have said they would investigate and that is the right step.

‘I’m not going to prejudge that, it will be for them to set out what they find and do so transparently.’
