Real Madrid return to the Bernabeu to train

Real Madrid were back at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu a day earlier than expected as they trained ahead of their LaLiga Santander tie against Celta Vigo.

The players took to the hallowed turf for the first time in more than a year and a half, with their last appearance at the stadium coming against Barcelona on March 1, 2020.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti decided to take the last training session before their match on Sunday at the Bernabeu so that the squad have a feel for the place and the pitch before returning.

Training on the pitch is usually common before Champions League ties, but was seen as a good idea considering Madrid’s long absence from their stadium.

Ancelotti now has to decide on his starting eleven for the match against Celta after the return of Luka Modric, Nacho and Marcelo from injury.

Florentino Perez welcomed the team onto the pitch

Club president Florentino Perez welcomed the players and staff onto the Bernabeu pitch ahead of their training session on Saturday.
