Australia’s richest person has hand-delivered meat pies to Liberal voters in a marginal seat ‘seriously threatened’ by a popular Teal candidate.

Mining magnate Gina Rinehart was seen stepping out of a white SUV in Ryde, on Sydney‘s north shore, holding a large white box on Saturday afternoon.

The West Australian billionaire handed out meat pies to Liberal voters in support of MP for Lane Cove and personal friend Anthony Roberts.

It’s not the first time the politician has received pies from the mining magnate, having received a care package from Ms Rinehart during the Covid lockdown

The billionaire sent the Minister of Planning a box of artisan pies all the way from Adelaide after learning the politician was stuck in isolation.

‘Gina sent me a care package. I got a box of Kidman Pies sent to me from Adelaide,’ Mr Roberts told the Sunday Telegraph at the time.

‘There was enough here to last me to the end.’

However, not everyone welcomed the billionaire at polling booths across Ryde.

‘Ok – not much shocks me anymore with #auspol but I’m hearing that Gina Rinehart turned up in a few locations around Lane Cove handing out meat pies to Liberal people in support of Anthony Roberts,’ one woman tweeted.

‘They must be very worried. Extraordinary.’

It comes as Mr Roberts goes head-to-head with popular Independent candidate Victoria Davidson for the seat of Lane Cove in Sydney’s north shore.

The seat is held by Mr Roberts by just 14 per cent, meaning his position in the electorate is being seriously threatened by his Teal opponent.

More to come.
