NPP supporters descend on Wodemaya over ‘unwise’ comment

Popular Ghanaian YouTuber, Wodemaya

Popular Ghanaian YouTuber, Wodemaya, has found himself at the center of controversy following remarks criticising supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a Facebook reply, Wodemaya claimed that NPP supporters “can’t be wise,” sparking intense reactions from the public and igniting widespread debate across social media.

The comment, seen by many as divisive, has added fuel to ongoing discussions about political affiliations in Ghana.

Wodemaya, known for his influential content on African development, made the statement in response to a post discussing the recent arrest of Democracy Hub protesters. In his initial post, Wodemaya expressed his disappointment, stating, “This is not the Ghana we know.”

This comment was met with a response from the CEO of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, who pointed out that similar incidents had occurred in Kenya, the home country of Wodemaya’s wife.

Unhappy with the response, Wodemaya replied sharply, stating, “Judging from your cover photo, I was not expecting anything wise from you.”

This remark, combined with the fact that Mr. Ofosu Nkansah’s cover photo features NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been widely interpreted as a direct attack on NPP supporters.

The comment has since drawn criticism, with many viewing it as a condemnation of the political views and judgment of those aligned with the ruling party.

The backlash has been swift, with NPP loyalists taking to social media to express their discontent. Some are demanding an apology from Wodemaya, while others have dismissed his statement as a personal opinion.

In defense of their political affiliation, supporters have accused the YouTuber of using his platform to insult and belittle a significant portion of the Ghanaian population.
