Broadcaster Kojo Preko Dankwa has defended Auntie Naa’s show amid recent criticism surrounding its content, particularly in light of the controversy involving gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, his wife, and Maame Tiwaa.
Critics have lambasted Auntie Naa’s show for allegedly providing a platform for uncivilized discussions.
The scrutiny intensified when Yaw Sarpong’s wife aired their marital issues on the program, accusing Maame Tiwaa of assuming her role and neglect from her husband.
Despite the sensitive nature of the allegations against the respected gospel musician, netizens have criticized Auntie Naa for allowing such personal matters to be discussed publicly on her show.
Some have even called for the show’s ban, arguing it could undermine marriages nationwide.
However, Kojo Preko Dankwa holds a contrary view.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s ‘Abrantepa’, Kojo defended Auntie Naa’s show, stating, “There are certain programs that are targeted at certain types of people. you have a target market for every single programme. So this programme for instance, that Auntie Naa sits on has a particular target she is reaching and she is getting the numbers.”
He continued, addressing the broader criticism, “Let’s not say that people should concentrate on programmes that focus on major issues and not Auntie Naa’s show. When you go out there, people are concentrating on Puff Daddy’s issue as we speak. Is it the best issue when it comes to their sector? No. But they want to talk about this news because they have their target market.
Kojo emphasized the show’s relevance, saying, “When it comes to pertinent issues, I see this as a pertinent issue. It has the tendency to open doors for someone. So far as they are not defaming someone or getting into any legal issues, it is the best thing to talk about on their show.
In essence, Kojo Preko Dankwa sees Auntie Naa’s show as serving its purpose within its targeted audience, despite the controversy it may generate.
