The ruling New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region, Dr. Savior John Eleblu, has challenged the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to bring infrastructure development to the constituency.

The North Tongu district was ranked the second poorest district in the 2020 Population and Housing Census (PHC).

According to Eleblu, the well-known lawmaker, Okudzeto Ablakwa should have contributed to the development of the district.

Okudzeto Ablakwa has been the MP for North Tongu since 2012.

However, Dr. Eleblu said aside from the parliamentary mandates, Ablakwa has failed in lobbying for development for the area.

“What motivated me to come to this constituency is one single thing; the one thing that has motivated me is the social media that we have, the media guru that we have, the journalist that we have as MP, and people are suffering.

In the whole of Ghana, we’re leading in poverty, and our MP is talking about things that do not talk about the people directly. Is that the MP we need in North Tongu when we don’t have good drinking water in Tsikpe and so many other communities? He’s not talking about these critical issues that concern the lives and livelihoods of my people; this is why I’ve come,” the PC said in an interview with the media after filling for his nomination.

The PC organised a mini durbar after he filed for his nomination.

He used the occasion to preach his visions for the area and called on the constituents to unveil themselves and vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as president and for him to be the next MP.

Some party executives of the constituency at the durbar endorsed the candidature and pledged their support.

On his side, the District Chief Executive for the area, Osborne Fenu, said the PC has the potential to bring development, and he believes when allowed to represent the people of North Tongu, he will do his best in the development of the district, especially in the district’s agriculture sector.
