NAM 1 Sues Bridget Otoo For Defamation; Demands 1 Million Ghana Cedis And More In Damages

Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, has taken legal action against Ghanaian journalist Bridget Otoo for defamation.

The lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of Judicature, alleges that the Metro TV newscaster’s statements on social media have violated NAM 1’s right to fair trial and presumption of innocence, as guaranteed by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

NAM 1, the embattled Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold Company Limited and several other businesses, has in the past few years faced scrutiny due to issues with his company’s regulators.

This incident led to the suspension of Menzgold’s operations. However, as a part of NAM 1’s efforts to resolve the situation and pay back some customers, NAM 1 gave a sum of five million Ghana Cedis to the Police for safekeeping.

Soon after this payment, NAM 1, in his writ of summons available to zionfelix.net, stated that Bridget Otoo allegedly posted defamatory remarks on her social media handle, specifically Twitter now X, implying that NAM 1 was involved in fraudulent activities.

The lawsuit claims that Otoo’s statements have damaged NAM 1’s reputation and caused him significant harm both personally and professionally.

The lawsuit seeks various remedies, including a declaration that Otoo’s statements are defamatory.

Also, he is seeking general and exemplary damages of One Million Ghana Cedis, a perpetual injunction restraining Otoo from further defamatory publications, an order for Otoo to issue an unqualified apology on the same platform, and the removal of any defamatory statements from her social media handles.
