A witness has told of the moment he found a woman dead in a driveway, surrounded by blood, as he returned home in Sydney’s south-west in the early hours of the morning.

Maintenance worker Daniel Tau returned home to Moorebank after his night shift before 6am on Friday when he found the 43-year-old woman lying dead in his driveway.

The woman – who lived on the same property as Mr Tau – had suffered a serious cut to her left arm and had suffered no other obvious injuries, police said.

Detectives are examining a smashed window at the property.

‘It was still dark’, Mr Tau told Daily Mail Australia.

‘As I turned into the driveway I saw the body lying there and blood was everywhere. On the driveway, on the footpath.’

He added: ‘I didn’t want to go near her. I was afraid.’

Mr Tau could not get through to the emergency services so he flagged down a driver to call them.

He said the woman, his housemate, was wearing a loose-fitting Fijian-style dress.

‘They (her and her boyfriend) live by themselves and I live on my own,’ Mr Tau said.

‘They mind their own business so I mind my own business. We don’t really speak.’

Mr Tau’s car was still parked across the street and on the driveway when Daily Mail Australia visited the scene.

A police officer, who had been at the scene for seven hours, said two homicide detectives were still at the scene.

However, he added: ‘I don’t think it’s homicide: it seems more like suicide.’

A source told Daily Mail Australia the woman had injuries to the back of her head

Detectives from the Homicide Squad investigated the death,

Police removed crime scene tape from the property just after 2pm.

A police officer indicated that they believed the incident was misadventure.

‘We would be here a whole lot longer if it was homicide,’ she said.

An official police spokesman said officers will investigate the cause of death.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
