Millions of Brits disagree with popular opinions, with over one in ten people unimpressed by Oasis

If your heart didn’t skip a beat on hearing the Gallagher brothers are reuniting and you don’t find Friends funny, you are not alone.

Millions of contrary Britons just don’t go along with popular opinion, happily shunning high-profile TV shows and mega-successful bands. Researchers found that more than one in ten of us – 13 per cent – are turned off by Oasis and 14 per cent expressed a dislike of the hugely successful US comedy series Friends.

Furthermore, the sitcom’s much-loved character Joey Tribbiani – played by Matt Le Blanc – is deemed ‘over-rated’ by 13 per cent of us. Another 12 per cent dislike the long-running show The Simpsons, with 23 per cent irritated by Homer Simpson.

A further 11 per cent said they switch channels when the mafia-based crime drama The Sopranos comes on. And if you always felt in the minority for preferring Android to Apple, then you would be mistaken – 59 per cent of those asked said Android is better than Apple.

Coldplay may have sold millions of albums but 8 per cent of people expressed a dislike for the group, while 15 per cent named Little Mix the most overrated band in the UK and 13 per cent said they couldn’t stand One Direction.

The study also found that 14 per cent expressed a dislike of the hugely successful US comedy series Friends

Another 13 per cent said stony beaches are better than sandy ones, while 28 per cent prefer driving in silence to listening to any kind of music behind the wheel.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes came up with the findings by asking a thousand UK adults if they felt out of step with popular tastes.

Spokeswoman Nicola McGeady said: ‘Our study found that when it comes to music, film and entertainment the UK has many divided opinions that buck the trend.

‘There is no doubt that Little Mix and Coldplay are household favourites, but a sizeable minority also find they hit a duff note.’

She added: ‘Amazingly, Homer Simpson and Joey Tribbiani are quite annoying for many people.’

Some 53 per cent of those questioned said they prefer watching a TV series by weekly instalments rather than binge viewing. And 56 per cent prefer a nice meal at home to going out. Almost a third of tea drinkers buck the trend by insisting on putting the milk in the cup first, and 22 per cent prefer soft drinks at room temperature to chilled ones.

Four out of ten adults prefer sleeping in a separate bed to their partner, while 30 per cent said caviar is an over-rated luxury food.
