Melbourne woman throws herself an all-black, funeral-themed 30th birthday to mourn the end of her 20s
An Australian woman has kissed goodbye to her 20s in dramatic fashion by throwing a hilarious funeral-themed 30th birthday party.
Alexandra Duffin mourned her third decade on earth surrounded by her loved ones, who gathered at her house in Melbourne to pay their respects to the last 10 years of her life.
The content creator spent $1,000 kitting out her party with all-black decorations including balloons, roses and birthday cake. She even had coffin-shaped food and a sign on the door saying, ‘In loving memory of Alexandra’s 20s’.
Friends and family who attended the event arrived in all-black attire – some even in veils – and they were all asked to visit a memory table, which asked them to bury the memories they’d made with Alexandra in her 20s.

After posting the video to TikTok, she said: ‘I like to be different and unique, and this was definitely an iconic me moment to make this a theme.
‘The purpose of this theme was to bury my 20s and rise to be a mature young woman going into my thirties.
‘It was a great day filled with family and good laughs about the theme. It brought everyone together, and it was the best birthday party I’ve ever had!
‘I am sad, but I’m also ready to take on my 30s.
‘I feel like I’ve started a trend and inspired so many people, and I love it because it’s iconic, and the meaning behind it is deeper than people think – it definitely put a smile on my face.’
To set the atmosphere the party also featured had a black backdrop with a black balloon garland, 30 black balloons, a frame on the door saying, ‘In loving memory of Alexandra’s 20s’, black roses, candle sticks, and rose petals and balloons which hung from the ceiling with Polaroids of Alexandra as a young baby.
Alexandra’s favourite foods were chicken schnitzels, chips, salad, a taco station, and spanakopita (a Greek dish).
