Melbourne home invasion: Five teens arrested after allegedly stealing Mercedes early morning burglary in Brighton

Five teens have been arrested after they allegedly broke into a home and took a stolen Mercedes for a joyride, sparking a wild police chase across Melbourne.

Police were called to the beachside suburb of Brighton shortly after midnight on Monday morning following reports of an aggravated burglary.

Residents at home at the time disturbed an intruder who ran fled the scene before realising their 2015 Mercedes Tourer had been stolen.

The Air Wing was deployed to track the luxury car spotted by patrol officers on Nepean Highway heading towards the city.

The car allegedly clocked speeds of up to 170km/h along St Kilda Road, Southbank Monash Freeway and over the Bolte Bridge.

The car then exited the Freeway at Footscray Road and was later dumped in Yarraville Gardens.

Five teens allegedly fled from the vehicle and jumped fences into backyards and various properties.

The Air Wing assisted local police and a Dog Squad unit in tracking down the teens in a coordinated response.

Two youths were found on the roof of a home were two others spotted trying to hide in a backyard shed 

The fifth teen was arrested in a backyard.

Four males and one female aged all 15-17 are currently assisting police with their inquiries.

No charges have yet been laid.

Acting 3AW breakfast presenter Mark Allen witnessed part of the police chase on his way to work.

‘I saw this car coming up behind me with its hazard lights on and it zips past,’ he recalled.

‘As it goes past, I notice there’s kids inside. We’re stopped at the lights when a cop car turns right.’

‘The car speeds off and 20 seconds later, the cop car is zooming past me.’

He added the Mercedes was a ‘beautiful’ car.

Detectives are investigation whether the youths were also involved in an alleged  aggravated burglary in Bentleigh shortly after the Brighton incident

Police allege another vehicle was used and dumped after it crashed into a parked car.
