Match Report: South Korea 2-3 Ghana

Ajax Amsterdam star Mohammed Kudus registered a brace for Ghana as the Black Stars survived a late scare to defeat Korea 3-2 on Monday afternoon in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The result means Africa has now set a new record at the World Cup with three countries recording victories on Matchday 2 of the tournament.

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu registered the opening goal for the Black Stars on the 24th minute from a setpiece as he arrived inside the box to connect home a free-kick engineered by Jordan Ayew from distance.

The Black Stars continued to press and duly claimed the comfort goal 10 minutes later. Ajax Amsterdam star Mohammed Kudus beat the offside trap to outjump Kim Min-Jae to flick home a Jordan Ayew cross.

Thomas Partey and Abdul-Samed Salis dominated the midfield battle for the Black Stars in the opening half.

Ati Zigi pulled a world class stop to deny Gue-Sung Cho a glorious scoring header.

However, the 24-year-old Jeonbuk forward ghosted into the box to head home a cross from the right.

Two minutes later, Cho levelled the scoring for Korea after heading the ball into the net to peck the scoring.

Kudus restored the lead for Ghana on the 68th minute.

The Koreans piled late pressure to get the equaliser but the Ghanaian defence stood firm.
