Marjorie Taylor Greene says GOP isn’t ‘white supremacist’ at rally because ‘yellow people’ attended

Marjorie Taylor Greene hits back at claims the GOP is the party of ‘white supremacy’ because of the ‘yellow people’ in the crowd at Turning Point rally

  • Greene was attempting to describe the diversity of the crowd when she said it
  • ‘I see white people, black people, brown people, yellow people, and then there’s talk of freedom, and loving America,’ she said at the youth conservative event
  • ‘Yellow’ is a racial slur when used to describe Asians, dating back to the 1800s
  • Star Trek actor George Takei, who spent part of his childhood in a World War II-era Japanese internment camp, took to Twitter to criticize Greene

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia dismissed criticism that the GOP is full of ‘white supremacists’ during a speech on Sunday because she observed ‘yellow people’ in the audience.

Speaking to a packed and enthusiastic crowd at youth conservative group Turning Point USA’s multi-day AmericaFest 2021, the GOP firebrand dropped the anti-Asian slur when commenting on the diversity of her audience.

‘When I walked in yesterday, I was like, “What kind of people come here?” So I’m walking around and seeing some good people,’ Greene said as a few whoops and cheers can be heard.

‘And I see white people, black people, brown people, yellow people, and then there’s talk of freedom, and loving America, and conservative principles.

‘Some crazy people in here were talking about how much they loved this guy named Jesus, and I heard something I really like, I think I heard that a lot of people here like a guy named Donald J. Trump.’

The crowd erupted in cheers of agreement.

‘And then I said oh, oh, I know exactly what this is – the Left calls this a white supremacist party. Okay, okay, I know what I’m going to now,’ Greene said.

She received a warm welcome from the large crowd attending her speech

She described herself as ‘one of those three-name people’ and said she was a member of Congress, adding her fellow lawmakers ‘hate it.’

Describing someone Asian as ‘yellow’ is a well-known racial slur, dating back at least to the term ‘yellow peril’ being used in the 1800s in reference to the fear Asian immigrants to the US would upend Western values.

Anti-Asian sentiments reached an alarming peak when the COVID-19 pandemic first began, resulting in a wave of violent attacks against Asian Americans nationwide.

It’s not clear if that’s the context Greene used it in. DailyMail.com has reached out to her office for comment.

Star Trek actor George Takei took offense to the lawmaker’s comments on Twitter. Part of Takei’s childhood was spent in a Japanese internment camp during World War II.

‘I honestly haven’t heard someone use “yellow people” for decades. Perhaps she meant “yellow bellied people” because there are certainly lots in that crowd,’ the actor wrote.

As recently as October, a Republican state senator from Oklahoma came under fire for using the term ‘yellow’ in reference to Asian Americans during a presentation.

During a presentation on the racial wealth gap by policy analyst Damion Shade, State Senator David Rader asked, ‘Well into your presentation did you go to yellow families?’

Shade corrected him to say ‘Asian Americans,’ to which Rader replied: ‘You use Black term, white term, brown term so I was just gonna jump in there with you.’

Greene herself has been accused of making anti-Asian comments in the past.

In July she joined Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast where she said she’d deport Chinese Americans with Communist sympathies.

‘I would kick out every single Chinese in this country that is loyal to the CCP. They would be gone. I do not care who they are,’ Greene said on July 21.

‘I don’t care how much money you have, how much land you own, how many businesses you own, how much money you’ve donated to colleges and universities, I don’t care about who your kid is, and how many students you’ve sent to colleges.’
