Manly Corso assault: Bloke, 37, dies in hospital after alleged assault at one of Australia’s most famous beaches after weeks in an induced coma

Friends of a man who died from injuries sustained from an alleged assault at a famous Sydney beach have remembered him as a loving family man.

Matthew Williams, 37, died on Tuesday night having spent 10 days in an induced coma after allegedly being assaulted on The Corso at Manly on Sydney‘s northern beaches about 3am on January 27.

Emergency services were called to scene where they found Mr Williams with a ‘serious head injury’.

Police believe Mr Williams had fallen backwards and hit his head during a fight, allegedly with Jesse Allan, a 24-year-old man from nearby Fairlight.

He was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition and placed into an induced coma he would not wake from.

Friends of Mr Williams remembered him as a ‘kind and caring’ family man who will be ‘greatly missed’.

A friend of Mr Williams, Paina Inas Brown, took to social media to share his grief over the death.

‘Rest easy now bro gonna miss ya (sic) love you bro,’ he wrote.

Another close friend told the Daily Telegraph that Mr Williams’ family are ‘struggling’ to come to grips with his death.

‘He loved his family fiercely and his friends too, he was fun and silly and would make everyone laugh every single day,’ the friend said.

Police arrested Allan at his home on January 28 and and charged him with one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

That charge pre-dates the death of the victim.

Allan faced Manly Local Court on January 28 when he made a bail application that was granted.

Allan’s barrister told the court that his client had used an ‘open handed push’ on Mr Williams in self defence during the altercation, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The court heard the accused had tried to help Mr Williams when he saw his head hit the ground, but fled the scene after being abused by onlookers.

In granting Allan’s bail, the magistrate noted a ‘very clear and serious injury to the victim’ and imposed conditions that he must live with his parents and surrender both his Australian and UK passports.

Allan is scheduled to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on March 26.
