Manchester woman tries to fight off carjackers as they steal her BMW [VIDEO]

This is the terrifying moment a woman tried to fight off carjackers who stole her BMW seconds after she returned home from work.

Shocking CCTV footage shows 54-year-old Elaine Roscoe ‘wrestling’ a robber for her car keys outside her home in Moston, north Manchester on December 29.

Offenders targeted her seven-month-old BMW m235i and followed her home, before striking as Ms Roscoe was gathering her belongings from the front passenger seat.

She told the Manchester Evening News: ‘You don’t come home and think, “Who will carjack me?”

‘You see it in the news, all over social media, but when it happens to you it’s surreal.

‘You see it happening to other people and you think, “I would do this or that,” but you react how you react.

‘It’s horrible. It’s shocked me, it’s angered me. I think it’s every emotion you can think of.’

Accounts assistant Ms Rochdale had returned to work in Rochdale last Wednesday after her Christmas break and left the office around 5.05pm.

She parked her BMW m235i, which cost from around £34,535 new, behind her home almost half an hour later, before walking to the passenger side to pick up her bag and some letters.

Ms Roscoe said she noticed that something wasn’t right as she gathered her belongings and heard someone approaching.

She added: ‘I heard these feet running. I looked up and there was a lad shouting, “Give me the key, give me the key.”

‘I’ve never experienced anything like it in my whole life – it was a bit of a shock. I didn’t take it all in straight away.

‘He ran at me, and then we’re basically fighting over this car key. I’ve worked hard for what I have ever since I left school – there was no way I was letting this key go.

‘It was only seconds but it felt like minutes.’

As the man tried to grab her BMW keys, Ms Roscoe said a second offender began to approach.

Ms Roscoe later said of the incident: ‘You see it in the news, all over social media, but when it happens to you it’s surreal’

But the first man eventually managed to escape with the key and drive off in her car.

Ms Roscoe then screamed ‘they’ve got my car’ at her partner, who ‘came running back out’.

After her BMW was driven away she called 999, and then located the car with a tracking app on her phone.

Neighbours rushed over to offer their help and the police arrived shortly after.

Using the app, Ms Roscoe saw that her car had been stopped on Duncombe Drive, less than a mile away from her home.

She said the carjackers did manage to rip out the tracking device, but ‘luckily we were too quick for them’ and the car was recovered.

‘I’ve been told that they usually move the car, and the last place it is tracked is where they have ripped it out, then you have no idea where it is,’ she added.

Neighbours showed Ms Roscoe CCTV of the BMW being followed by a grey Fiat Punto.

Ms Roscoe is now waiting for her car to be repaired.
