Los Angeles high school is put on lockdown after one person is shot outside and another is found wounded at a nearby kindergarten

  • The Los Angeles School Police Department responded to reports of shots fired along the perimeter of Santee High School in downtown Los Angeles 
  • A second gun shot victim was found outside the Maple Primary Center – a school for students in kindergarten and first grade
  • The suspect had been described by the LASPD as a Hispanic male wearing dark blue clothes with green shoes riding on a light blue bike 
  • The two gunshot victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment, though their conditions remain unknown 










A Los Angeles high school was placed on a lockdown order on Thursday afternoon after one person was found shot outside and another was found the street at a nearby kindergarten, cops said.

The Los Angeles School Police Department responded to reports of shots fired along the perimeter of Santee High School in downtown Los Angeles, the agency said on Twitter around 2 p.m. local time.

The victim, a student at the high school, had a tourniquet placed on them by officers and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, KCBS-TV reported. 

About half an hour later, the LASPD responded to reports of a second gun shot victim found outside the Maple Primary Center – a school for students in kindergarten and first grade, the agency tweeted.

The LASPD noted that officers with the Los Angeles Police Department, as well as the Los Angeles Fire Department, also responded to the shootings

The suspect had been described by the LASPD as a Hispanic male wearing dark blue clothes with green shoes riding on a light blue bike. It was not immediately clear if the suspect has been arrested. 

The second gunshot victim was also transported to local hospital for treatment, though their condition remains unknown.

The lockdown for the Santee Education Complex has since been lifted, police said.

The LASPD noted that officers with the Los Angeles Police Department, as well as the Los Angeles Fire Department, also responded to the shootings.

The LASPD, a separate entity from the LAPD, maintains a police force of 211 sworn officers and 25 non-sworn school safety officers, as well as 32 civilian support staff. 

It is the fifth largest police department in Los Angeles County, and the 14th largest in California, according to its website.
