London tube station shut amid claims of a ‘stabbing’: Emergency services rush to Kennington underground – just hours after knifeman stabbed man on train at Beckenham eight miles away before going on the run

Kennington tube station has been shut amid claims of a ‘stabbing’ – just hours after a thug knifed a man on the train at Beckenham eight miles away before going on the run.

A man was left fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed on the train at Beckenham Junction this afternoon.

Transport for London (TfL) later confirmed that Kennington underground station has been closed due to a ‘customer incident’.

One person on social media platform X said the train stopped at Kennington before passengers were ordered to get off.

They wrote: ‘Our southbound Northern line train stopped at Kennington and the driver asked us to get off the train (knowing someone was stabbing people).

‘Why not keep us on the train until the culprit had been detained?’

Another person wrote: ‘I also was on the same train and overheard from medical staff storming in that 2 people were in real danger.’

It has not been confirmed whether the Kennington and Beckenham incidents were linked.
