Lisa Marie Presley looked ‘incredibly sad’ as she gave speech days before death

Lisa Marie Presley told fans at Graceland she hardly left her home in a poignant speech just days before her sudden death aged 54.

The singer-songwriter told the devoted crowd at her father’s Memphis estate that they were the ‘only people who can bring me out of the house’ in the touching words to mark his 88th birthday on Sunday.

Fans said the daughter of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, who had not posted on Instagram since August, looked ‘incredibly sad’ and ‘really hurting’, two years on from the suicide of her son Benjamin Keough, who is buried alongside Elvis at Graceland.

Two days later, she broke down in tears at the Golden Globes during Austin Butler‘s award speech for his portrayal of Elvis, before she died on Thursday after a cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California.

At Graceland on Sunday, Lisa Marie said: ‘It’s been a while. I’ve missed you. I love you.

‘I keep saying you are the only people who can bring me out of the house. I’m not kidding. I love you back and that’s why I’m here.

‘Today, he would have been 88 years old, it’s hard to believe. I think that he would have been proud, I think this year’s been an incredible year. I think the movie was incredible and I’m very proud of it, I hope you guys are too.

‘It’s just so moving how every year you come from all over the world and it’s moving to me and my family, and thank you.’

On Tuesday, the star was seen crying with her mother Priscilla, 77, during the Golden Globes.

They put their hands to their eyes and then their hearts as actor Austin Butler, who won Best Actor for his portrayal of Lisa Marie’s father in the biopic Elvis, told them he would love them ‘forever’.

Yesterday, she suffered a cardiac arrest at her home and died at the hospital with her mother by her side.

Her ex-husband Danny Keough performed CPR before paramedics arrived and took over, administering a dose of epinephrine in their resuscitation bid before she was rushed to hospital.

Lisa Marie married guitarist Keough after meeting as a teenager at a drug rehabilitation center. They had two children , Benjamin and Riley.

They divorced in 1994 in the Dominican Republic days before she eloped with Michael Jackson.

After Jackson, Lisa Marie was engaged to musician John Oszajca in 2000, but called it off after she met actor Nicolas Cage at a party. She and Cage married in August 2002, only to file for divorce three months later.

Lisa Marie then settled down with another musician, guitarist Michael Lockwood. They married in 2006 and had twins together, but divorced ten years later after Lisa Marie falsely claimed she found hundreds of images of child pornography on his computer.

During Lisa Marie and Lockwood’s custody battle, their twin daughters Finley and Harper were living with Priscilla.

Lisa Marie’s son Benjamin died by suicide in 2020, and she remained close with her first husband – and Benjamin’s father – throughout, and was living with him at the time of her death.

In August, she wrote an essay about her son’s death to mark National Grief Awareness.

‘I can understand why people may want to avoid you once a terrible tragedy has struck. Especially a parent losing their child because it is truly your worst nightmare,’ she wrote in the essay, which was published by People.

In June, she joined Priscilla, and daughters Riley, Harper and Finley as the family were immortalised with a Hand and Footprint ceremony outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department told the Hollywood Reporter that deputies responded to the 5900 block of Normandy in the city of Calabasas for a female in her 50s that suffered a cardiac arrest.

The spokesperson added that the fire department responded and was able to get a pulse on the female and that she was transported to West Hills hospital.

Lisa Marie owned and operated the immensely lucrative Elvis Presley Enterprises until 2005, when she sold off all of the business.

Lisa Marie was still the owner of Graceland, Elvis’s famed Memphis estate. When her father died in 1977, she was aged only nine.

In June 2019, the daughter of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll revealed her ongoing divorce battle to Michael Lockwood, with her addiction to opioids becoming a focal point of the proceedings.

She opened up about her addiction to painkillers in the foreword for Harry Nelson’s book The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain.

‘You may read this and wonder how, after losing people close to me, I also fell prey to opioids,’ she wrote.

‘I was recovering after the [2008] birth of my daughters, Vivienne and Finley, when a doctor prescribed me opioids for pain,’ she added.

‘It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them’ due to their dangerous addictive properties.

The divorce was finalized May 2021, following a decade-long marriage.

The 54-year-old has always maintained their relationship was real and that they had ‘a healthy and normal sex life.’

Lisa Marie vehemently defended the Thriller singer who died in 2009 from a drug overdose after he was accused of child abuse.

‘I believed he didn’t do anything wrong, and that he was wrongly accused and, yes, I started falling for him,’ she said.

‘I wanted to save him. I felt that I could do it.’

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 2010, she said that their romance failed because he led an unhealthy lifestyle.

‘There was a very profound point in the marriage when he had to make a decision. Was it the drugs and the sort of vampires, or me? And he pushed me away,’ she said of the two-year marriage.
