In April 2023, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern open-air amphitheater in Kumasi.

According to him, the project, which forms part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto to build five (5) amphitheaters across the country, will be completed by July 2023.

“This amphitheater is supposed to start any moment, and by the end of July 2023, it should be ready. I repeat, we are cutting sod in the next 10 to 15 minutes, and by July 2023, it should be ready,” he confirmed.

The NPP administration will soon come to an end, yet the open-air amphitheater in Kumasi, as promised, remains in shambles.

However, the Tourism and Arts minister-designate, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, met creatives in Kumasi on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, inside Quarshie Idun Hall at the Kumasi Cultural Center to address the impasse surrounding the amphitheater.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer said at the meeting that the amphitheater will be completed before December 2024.

He reiterated that the Akufo-Addo-led administration could never afford to miss the completion of the Kumasi Amphitheater.
