Judicial Service must react to Justice Kulendi’s involvement in meeting between Dame and Jakpa – Dafeamekpor

AG Dame and the 3rd accused in Ato Forson’s trial allegedly met at the home of Justice Yonny Kulendi

The Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi has raised concerns about the silence of the Judicial Service of Ghana on the involvement of Justice Yonny Kulendi, a justice of the Supreme Court, in a supposed meeting between the Attorney General, Godfred Dame, and businessman Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing trial of the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

After Jakpa accused the Attorney General of attempting to coerce him into testifying against Dr. Ato Forson, the office of the Attorney General indicated that it was the third accused who ambushed Dame at the residence of a Supreme Court judge, identified as Justice Kulendi.

A 16-minute audio recording of a phone conversation between Dame and Jakpa, released by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), also seems to make reference to Justice Kulendi, who is said to be a brother of the third accused.

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has stated that Dame went to Justice Kulendi’s house after being invited by the judge and was ambushed by Jakpa, who was seeking a plea bargain.

Reacting to this, the South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, asserted that it is imperative for the Judicial Service to respond to the alleged involvement of the justice in the matter, myjoyonline.com reports.

He indicated that a statement is needed to clarify the judge’s role in the matter to ensure public confidence in the judiciary.

“I think our Judicial Secretary should consider making a statement on the allegation of Justice Kulendi’s involvement in this matter.

“It is very important for me that the Judicial Secretary comes out to clarify this matter. It is very important,” the MP is quoted as having said in an interview with TV3 on Wednesday, May 28, 2024.
