Jerome Boateng makes Lyon debut after being found guilty of assaulting ex

Former Bayern Munich Defender, Jerome Boateng

Former German defender, Jerome Boateng played his first match for Lyon two days after he was found guilty of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend.

Boateng, whose half-brother Kevin-Prince played for Ghana, featured in Lyon’s 3-1 win over Strasbourg in Ligue 1 two days.

He came on as a second-half substitute as Lyon recorded the dominant win to climb up to seventh on the table after five matches.

There were doubts Boateng would play because he appeared in court in Munich earlier in the week.

Boateng was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and ordered to pay a 1.8m euro (£1.5m) fine.

He had denied injuring the mother of his twin daughters, named Sherin S, during an argument on holiday in 2018.

She told the court in Munich that the former Bayern Munich defender and 2014 World Cup winner had punched her so hard, she lost her breath for a moment.

In his testimony, Boateng described a different version of events.

Under Germany’s domestic violence laws, he could have been jailed for up to five years.

But on the field, Boateng looked really calm and delivered a decent performance in his first appearance for Lyon.

Boateng moved to French Ligue 1 team Lyon on a free transfer in the summer after his contract at Bayern expired.
