Journalist Kojo Preko Dankwa has expressed disappointment over renowned gospel artiste Yaw Sarpong’s inability to fund his hospital bills.

According to Kojo Preko Dankwa, he could not understand why a successful gospel artiste like Yaw Sarpong couldn’t pay for his medical bills and rather sought intervention.

Yaw Sarpong is a popular household name in the gospel fraternity. He won the hearts of Ghanaians with his evergreen gospel songs.

Unfortunately, the gospel artist’s manager disclosed that Yaw Sarpong is battling with stroke and has been bedridden for almost a year now. This followed a GHC100,000 donation from the vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to support the ailing musician.

However, for Dankwa, “As a creative person, I am sad that Yaw Sarpong, with all the music he’s done; look at the kind of music this guy has done for ages, and he still can’t even get money to take care of himself. It is a pity, and it is not good for the creatives,” he said.

He also lashed out at Yaw Sarpong’s divorced wife’s intention to use some part of the donated money to start a project, describing her actions as ‘unwise’.

“Why would you want to come public with a donation that has been done purposely for your husband’s ailment? He is sick; that is why the vice president, the flagbearer of the NPP, decided to donate. I’m not too sure if he was very fine and fit; with all the old-aged musicians in the Ashanti Region, he would be the one that they have to go and donate to. I think it was for a purpose. It was even unwise for the wife to even come public to say that she wanted to get into a project and so we should use half of the money to do that,” he said in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Abrantepa.
