Entertainment pundit Sally Mann has called upon the presidency to extend support to dance artistes Afronitaaa and Abigail, who recently gained international attention on Britain’s Got Talent.
Afronitaaa (real name Danita Yeboah) and her protégé, 7-year-old Abigail Adjiri, successfully represented Ghana in the 17th season of the ITV competition and made the country proud by clinching 3rd place.
Despite achieving the feat without any institutional backing, the duo’s success was acknowledged by various institutions and personalities including Vice-President Dr. Bawumia, the University of Ghana, and former president John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Accra-based Power FM, Sally Mann called for more support for the two dancers, stating that they could be sponsored to hone their dancing skills, and they could also be allowed to represent Ghana on global platforms.
“It would not take much from the president or the government institutions to take these girls along. The country can even pay for a masterclass, in terms of dance, for them to go out and learn.
“What they achieved was on their own accord; nobody supported them. They went on Britain’s Got Talent on their own.
“As a country, we should do something for them, let them see the people, let them move around. They can even accompany the president when he goes to creative art functions.
“Because of what these two girls have done for Ghana, especially Abigail, it’s not easy. I congratulate them,” she said.
The Ghanaian dance duo were adjudged the third-best act in the 2024 edition of the UK’s talent show, Britain’s Got Talent.
The duo, who had been favourites of both the judges and fans of the competition, lost the final shot at the £250,000 prize money despite delivering a thrilling dance performance on Sunday, 02 June 2024.
They lost the competition to Jack Rhodes, who came in second, and Sydine Christmas, who won the prize money and the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
Beyond their dance prowess, the story of Afronitaaa and her protégé captured the hearts of the BGT audience and judges since the duo’s audition.
Despite being hearing-impaired, Abigail’s ability to synergize with Afronitaaa as her dance partner earned the duo praise throughout the competition.
They were celebrated on Britain’s Got Talent’s Instagram and their success has highlighted Ghanaian dance and culture internationally.
