It Is A Very Sad Day – Bawumia Says As Christian Atsu’s Remains Arrive In Ghana | Football/Soccer

The mortal remains of Ghanaian international, Christian Atsu, have arrived in Ghana at the Kotoka International Airport.

Christian Atsu was one of the thousands that lost their lives in the tragic earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria on February 6.

The remains was accompanied by his twin sister and elder brother and Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkiye on a Turkish airlines flight.

Present at the KIA were Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, government officials, the family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the clergy.

In a short speech, Dr. Bawumia said: “It is a very sad day that we are here to receive the mortal remains of our brother, our son, our husband, our uncle”.

According to him “the tragedy that occurred in Turkey about a week ago is one which was devastating and we anxiously and nervously prayed that our brother Christian Astu will be found alive. We hoped against hope every day that passed; we prayed and prayed but alas when he was found he was no more”.

“We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere condolences to the Twasam family. It is a painful loss, a very painful one…” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia has indicated that the state will be fully involved with the family in giving Christian Atsu a befitting burial.
