Interpretation fails to finish Melbourne Cup: Horse’s condition

Horse FAILS to finish the Melbourne Cup race as jockey says ‘he’s not right’ and vet investigates

One horse failed to finish the 2022 Melbourne Cup race – with Interpretation pulling up early despite being passed fit to start.

Jockey Craig Newitt was heard saying after the race: ‘He’s not right, that horse’.

The horse was passed fit after undergoing a vet inspection on Tuesday ahead of the race.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Estace, the horse was discovered to be lame in the near fore and off hind on Monday.

‘He just had a nail in the wrong spot and we took the shoe off and addressed the problem. It is back on now and looks fine. It is up to what they think in the morning,’ Maher said.

Meanwhile, three other horses had to walk across the finishing line, ending up a long way behind the winner after being pulled up by their jockeys.

Camorra, Serpentine and Numerian all walked over the line of the 3200m race.

In a statement, Racing Victoria said on Tuesday evening: ‘RV’s Veterinary Services team has notified Stewards that post-race veterinary examination results did not reveal any significant findings to any Melbourne Cup runners at this time.’

Gold Trip – flagged by betters as the crowd favourite – took out the rate, followed by Emissary, High Emocean and Deauville Legend.
