“If our grievances are not properly addressed, we should not be criticized for addressing them ourselves” – Imam of National Mosque writes

Ibrahim Maqari, the Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, has seemingly reacted to the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a Christian female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, by her fellow students over a ‘blasphemous’ statement she made.

Taking to his official Twitter on Friday, May 13, the Imam said Muslims have some redlines which must not be crossed, and disrespecting the dignity of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) is one of them.

According to him, if a redline is crossed by anyone and their grievances are not properly addressed, they should not be criticized for taking matters into their own hands.

He hinted that anyone who crosses the religion’s redlines will face severe consequences.

Although the Muslim cleric didn’t mention the name of the deceased student, it’s believed that he was addressing the uproar that followed her murder.

In the statement dated Thursday, May 12, Magari wrote,

“It should be known to everyone that we the Muslims have some red lines beyond which MUST NOT be crossed. The dignity of the Prophet (PBUH) is at the forefront of the red lines.

“If our grievances are not properly addressed, then you should not be criticized for addressing them ourselves.”
