‘I will continue acting until I’m 90’

Nollywood actor, Kanayo O Kanayo

Renowned Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has declared his intention to remain active in the film industry well into his 90s.

In a preview of the upcoming ‘Honest Bunch’ podcast, Kanayo, born Anayo Onyekwere and currently 62 years old, expressed his strong desire to continue acting at an advanced age.

He also voiced concerns about what he perceives as a rise in inexperienced actresses entering Nollywood.

The veteran actor and producer addressed issues ranging from substance abuse to homosexuality within the industry.

“Many young women are eager to act, but acting is a natural talent. If it’s not within you, perhaps you should consider another profession,” he remarked candidly.

Discussing sensitive topics like drug use and homosexuality, Kanayo called for measures to address these issues within Nollywood.

“Unfortunately, there are instances of substance abuse and even unnatural relationships among some individuals in our industry,” he stated frankly.

Kanayo emphasized his commitment to acting for many more years, expressing his hope to continue his career well into old age.

“By the time I’m 70, 75, 80, or even 90, I still want to be acting,” he affirmed.

Last year, Kanayo sparked controversy by alleging that certain individuals had entered Nollywood with intention of exploiting their sexuality.

He stressed that the film industry should remain a platform for serious actors and cautioned against using it for other purposes.

Recently, Kanayo proudly introduced his eldest son Clinton to the world of filmmaking, marking a new chapter in his family’s cinematic legacy.
