How NSW drivers can claim hundreds of dollars back from the government

Millions of drivers have been reminded to check if they’re eligible for a massive rebate on money spent on NSW roads.

Eligible drivers must have spent $375 between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023 to claim back a maximum of $750, and spend $402 between July 1 2023 and Just 30 2024 to claim back a maximum of $802.

Rebate claims have to be completed by the conclusion of the following financial year.

As well as reaching the $375 threshold, individuals must be a NSW resident, have an active NSW toll provider account and have already paid for the tolls.

Sole traders must have an active ABN that is not only registered in the state since the start of the financial year but also physically located and operating in NSW.

Drivers must also not have already claimed any toll rebates across any quarter during the financial year.

Trips that have already been claimed from an employer as business expenses are not eligible to be be claimed, as well as any tolls accrued interstate.

Those eligible for the rebate can make their claim through the Services NSW website after linking their toll account and following the ‘Toll Relief’ page.

NSW Transport noted that the rebate will not be made immediately, instead taking between three to eight business days.

The Toll Relief Rebate Scheme was introduced in January by former Liberal Minister for Metropolitan Roads Natalie Ward.

‘Drivers from Casula to Liverpool, Rouse Hill and Campbelltown will be the big winners, but everyone across New South Wales will have the chance to cash in on the new Toll Relief Rebate Scheme,’ she said at the time.

‘This is about putting more cash into the pockets of hardworking NSW families at a time when they are feeling the pinch from cost of living pressures.’

NSW Residents have been urged to check if they’re eligible for a 40 per cent rebate on tolls paid on NSW roads in the 2022-23 financial year with a maximum payment of $750

NSW residents and sole traders can expect to save even more from January 2024 under the Minns Government’s $60 per week cap on tolls.

Almost three-quarters of a million motorists will qualify for the new toll relief scheme which will be refunded quarterly by Service NSW.

The new scheme is targeted at delivering the most relief to residents in Sydney’s West who are hit most by toll roads and charges.

‘More motorists are going to access the $60 toll cap scheme than originally anticipated and I am very pleased to say more than 700,000 motorway users are now going to benefit,’ John Graham, the state’s Minister for Roads said in a statement.

‘Motorists, particularly in western Sydney where access to public transport alternatives have been more limited than in other parts of the city, have been crying out for relief from the ever-rising burden of tolls on the family budget.

‘The Minns Labor Government’s $60 toll cap is part of ending an era in which government placed more emphasis on growing toll revenue than on helping people get around Sydney without breaking the bank.’
