Highly technical Black Galaxies brush aside Nigeria to take commanding step in reverse fixture in Abuja — Ghana Sports Online

Ghana’s Black Galaxies remain in firm control to book a ticket to the 2023 CHAN tournament after dismissing Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-0 in the first-leg tie at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.

Annor Walker’s side produced an outstanding second-half display to score two crucial goals which have now put them in sight of qualification to the finals.

The former Great Olympics trainer had Danlad Ibrahim guarding the twine with his technicality and feline agility while Hearts of Oak defensive lines – Konadu Yiadom, Mohammed Alhassan, and Dennis Korsah joining Augustine Randolf to form the defensive rearguard.

His Nigerian counterpart Salisu Yusuf managed to keep his side composed as they strongly fend off any dangerous attacks from the Ghanaians, especially in the first half.

However, the Nigerian goalkeeper was made to pick the ball from the net after Daniel Afriyie Barnieh sent him the wrong way with a beautifully taken penalty at the 49th-minute mark.

The Galaxies created a host of chances after the goal and should have increased the tally but the Nigerians were both lucky and tactically organised at the back.

Hearts of Oak midfielder Suraj Seidu, who watched his teammate celebrate the opening goal of the game, was presented with a glorious chance and he ensured there was jubilation for the Ghanaians with 4 minutes of regulatory time left.

Ghana reached the stage after eliminating Benin’s Squirrels from the qualification series.
