Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed gunning for Black Stars start

Accra Hearts of Oak captain, Fatawu Mohammed

Accra Hearts of Oak defender, Fatawu Mohammed is in line to start for Ghana in Monday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg.

The right-back could be given the nod to play in the absence of England-based Andy Yiadom who has been recalled by Championship side Reading.

Head coach Charles Akonnor is looking at making changes to his first XI after seven players (based in France, Germany and England) withdrew from the squad due to travelling restrictions to Covid-19 red list countries like South Africa.

Mohammed was a key member of the Phobian squad that won the league and cup double at the end of the season.

He will be chasing his first international cap should he feature against the Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium.

Ghana’s squad in camp to face South Africa:

Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori, Richard Atta, Manaf Nurudeen, Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

Defenders: Philemon Baffuor, Gideon Mensah, Ismail Ganiyu, Alexander Djiku, Jonathan Mensah, Samuel Ashie Quaye, Joseph Aidoo, Fatawu Mohammed.
