Hearts of Oak finally secured their first victory of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League season, defeating Bechem United 2-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
The Phobians had been struggling to find their rhythm in the early weeks of the campaign, suffering back-to-back losses.
However, a strong performance against Bechem United turned their fortunes around.
New signing Ransford Mensah opened the scoring for Hearts shortly after halftime, converting a free kick from the edge of the box with a powerful shot that left the goalkeeper no chance.
The goal provided a much-needed boost for Hearts, who had been searching for their first goal of the season.
Hamza Issah, last season’s top scorer for Hearts, doubled the lead in the 75th minute.
His goal capped off a dominant second-half performance from the Phobians, who controlled the tempo of the game and created numerous scoring opportunities.
The victory was a significant relief for Hearts manager Aboubakar Ouattara, who had faced increasing pressure from supporters.
Hearts will now look to build on this win as they travel to the Ashanti Region to face Nations FC in their next match.
Bechem, meanwhile, remains winless after three games and has yet to score a goal.
Their disappointing start to the season is a cause for concern, and they will need to improve their performance.
