A shocking video has captured the moment a lorry toppled over onto the M11 yesterday after taking to a bend to fast as an RAC van drives on.

A driver on their way from Romford to Bishops Stortford on Wednesday filmed a truck that suddenly tipped on its side narrowly missing other cars.

The driver, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed that ‘traffic was light’ and ‘nothing was out of the ordinary’ until the accident happened at 2.36pm.

The 45-year-old said: ‘I was travelling home from there to Bishops Stortford, using the M25/M11 as I do every day.

‘I started to slow down when I approached a van in front of me, who was behind the lorry in question.

‘As we began to turn left around the bend to enter the M11, I noticed the trailer start to lean over to the right and eventually, gravity took over and the trailer tipped along with the cab on to its side.’

It was said that the lorry clipped the safety barrier on the right-hand side of the road before sliding across both lanes of the M11 and crashing into the central reservation.

The clip shows the Nuttall van stuck on its side, surrounded by debris from the accident.

The driver added: ‘The driver was ok. A few cuts and bruises and shaken up, but he was ok.’

Once the lorry came to a halt, the video shows an RAC van slowly moving around it and then pulling up on the hard shoulder.

The driver who filmed the incident claimed that they did not remember an RAC employee coming over to help.

They said: ‘The only people that helped the driver get out and stayed with him, were myself, an on duty police officer and two off-duty police officers.’

The RAC claimed that the van driver pulled up and stopped at the scene of the accident

However the RAC denied this and claimed that their driver did stop at the scene.

An RAC spokesperson said: ‘When the incident happened our patrol was following an RAC member with a new-born baby, having dealt with their breakdown.

‘He correctly stopped on the hard shoulder to see if he could help, but would have been putting his own life at risk if he’d tried to cross several lanes of motorway traffic. He didn’t leave until the police arrived on scene very soon afterwards.’
