Greyhound trainer was ‘battered by jilted love rival’ on track ahead of race


Did a love triangle spark the greyhound track attack? Trainer was ‘battered by jilted love rival after he discovered he’d been spending more time with his estranged ex… and had even called one of the dogs: “Gemma My One And Only”‘

A greyhound trainer was attacked while parading his dog at a racecourse in a love triangle spat, it has been claimed.

James Turner, 36, was allegedly attacked by jilted lover Neil Gargrow who ran out of the stands at Crayford Greyhound Track in Dartford, Kent and jumped on top of him.

Gargrow was reportedly jealous of Mr Turner’s relationship with his ex-partner of 18 years Gemma Routley. Mr Turner is said to have named one of his dogs ‘Gemma is My One and Only’ after her. 

The shocking incident was captured on TV and watched live in betting shops across the UK on Wednesday.

James Turner, 36, was reportedly the trainer attacked in the incident after becoming embroiled in a love traingle

Video footage shows a man in a blue jacket suddenly break from the edge of the course and attack the trainer from behind as the dogs were walked up towards the starting gates. 

The figure jumped on the trainer’s back before appearing to attack them with punches and kicks, taking the trainer completely by surprise.

He then punched him in the head, causing the trainer to let go of the dogs as the other trainers scrambled to pull their own greyhounds away from the incident.

Another member of staff behind Mr Turner managed to grab the leads of the greyhounds and pull them away too.

It has now been claimed that electrician Gargrow, 41, attacked Mr Turner after being overcome with jealousy after the dog trainer began a friendship with his ex-girlfriend Gemma Routley, The Sun reported.

Mr Turner is even said to have named one of his dogs ‘Gemma is My One and Only’.

Ms Routley was Gargrow’s partner for 18 years and is the mother of his two children. 

Gargrow allegedly stormed into the racecourse before the race shouting ‘Where’s James Turner?’ before punching his rival in the face.

He then handed himself in to police and was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

Mr Turner is not thought to have suffered serious injuries from the attack and his dog went on to win the race 

Mr Turner escaped serious injury following the attack and went on to win the race with his greyhound Mythmaker, who ran on odds of 11/4. 

A friend of Gargrow said the incident was out of character and caused by a ‘red mist’ of jealousy. 

They said: ‘Neil would never have done anything like this before, but it’s too much for him. Even after all of this he still loves Gemma.

‘It was like a red mist descended. He didn’t know where he was or what he was doing.’
