Greenwood stabbing: Tragic twist after Aussie grandparents are found stabbed in their Perth home


A teen who allegedly stabbed a pair of grandparents and their pet dog in their own home in a ‘targeted’ attack is known to the victim’s grandson, who lived with them, according to police.

Police were called to Mattison Way in Greenwood, in Perth‘s north, at around 8am on Monday, where the couple were found inside with stab wounds. 

Colin Norton, 81, died at the scene while his wife Margaret, 71, also known as ‘Maggie’, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

It’s understood the grandson may have been the intended target of the alleged attack and had been warned someone was coming to the house to hurt him and him family, Daily Mail Australia understands.

The grandson was seen breaking down in the driveway after he returned home and was told the heartbreaking news of his grandfather’s death by detectives. 

The couple’s dog was allegedly stabbed while trying to defend them. After fleeing their home, it was discovered wandering the streets. The dog is expected to make a complete recovery from its injuries.

Aerial resources and the police dog unit were called in as detectives plunged the suburb into lockdown and launched an urgent manhunt for the alleged knifeman, 19, who was arrested 5km away an hour later.

He has since been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempting to unlawfully kill.

‘Homicide Squad detectives are in the early stages of their investigation. However, early indications suggest the parties somehow knew each other,’ Det. Insp. Gary Butler told reporters.

‘We believe the man in custody may be linked to a family member.

Shocked neighbours and family members paid tribute to Mr Norton as they wished his wife a speedy recovery. 

Lacey Parker said that his ‘beautiful’ neighbours didn’t deserve what happened. 

‘To my dearest Maggie and family, my heart is shattered for you all; my deepest condolences following the sad and tragic loss of Colin,’ he said.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Maggie, for a safe and speedy recovery.

‘Myself and my children are so broken for you all … much love.’
