Homeless Good Samaritan rescues toddler who was dumped on the side of the street after carjacker took SUV while he was sleeping in the backseat

  • Authorities in Florida are currently hunting a man who stole a car containing a sleeping two-year-old child who had been left inside by his parents
  • Moments after parents had left the child inside the car, a thief successfully broke in and drove off – a short distance later the kid was taken out and left roadside 
  • A Good Samaritan discovered the child and called the police who managed to reunite the youngster with his parents 

A Good Samaritan who is homeless helped reunited a two-year-old boy with his parents after a thief stole the car the little boy was sleeping in.

Police are now searching for a man who stole the SUV whose owners had left their snoozing two-year old inside.

The youngster’s parents had stopped off at a relatives house in Florida and didn’t want to disturb the boy and so left him sleeping in the front seat of the car.

Seconds later, the thief to managed to break in and steal the car with the little boy still snoozing inside.

Moments after parents had left the child inside the car, a thief successfully broke in and drove off – a short distance later the kid was taken out and left by the roadside

A short distance away from where the car was stolen, the suspect removed the child from the car a left him on a nearby street where he was found shortly afterwards by a Good Samaritan.

‘I didn’t see any parents around and he was crying a little bit so i thought I’d better check on him,’ Darrel Everman said to ABC News.

‘I felt it was important to keep him calm so I acted as though nothing important was going on.

‘I was driving to my storage unit there on State Avenue and I looked to my right and there’s a child about five feet off the road. I knew that didn’t look right. I was concerned. He looked like he needed some help, and I was glad I was there to help him,’ Everman said.

‘I’m glad he’s OK. I thank God he put me in the predicament to find him. I was glad I made the right decisions to help him.’ 

‘I didn’t see any parents around and he was crying a little bit so i thought I’d better check on him,’ said Good Samaritan Darrel Everman to ABC News.

The little boy was unharmed but seemed a little upset by the whole ordeal

Touching bodycam video footage sees police officers comforting the boy and giving him a hug as they arranged to meet up with the youngster’s parents

The officers kept the little boy calm while giving him a toy to soothe him

Everman, 57,  quickly alerted police who were on the scene and managed to reunite the toddler with his worried family.

‘What’s up, buddy? You OK?’ the officer said in the video before giving him an Elmo toy. ‘Wanna come with me, buddy? Wanna go see your mommy?’ 

Holly Hill’s police chief a community watch meeting that Everman is the definition of community watch. 

Everman has been homeless for a number of years living out of his car. He was invited to dinner at the community watch meeting.

‘I’ve gotten a gift certificate. They’re talking about an oil change. They’re going to help me find some employment, maybe,’ Everman told WESH.

Authorities in Florida are still looking for the suspect and the stolen vehicle.
