Good Samaritan who stopped to help a driver change their flat tyre is tragically struck and killed by passing car in Victoria

  • The 55-year-old had pulled over to help another motorist with a flat tyre
  • A passing car ran into the 55-year-old and he died on the side of the highway
  • Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident 

A good Samaritan has tragically been hit and killed after he stopped to help a driver change their flat tyre. 

The 55-year-old motorist was driving along the Princess Highway in country Victoria when he stopped to help the other driver, just before the exit to the rural locality of Flynn in the state’s east.

At 8.20am, the 55-year-old was struck by a passing car and then died at the scene.

The 23-year-old man who was driving the passing car pulled over at the scene straight away and helped police with their investigations.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives arrived at the Right’s Lane scene not long after the crash. 

The full circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined, and police diverted traffic in the area over midday.

Westbound traffic along the highway, headed towards Traralgon, has been diverted with lanes closed for both directions of traffic. 

Emergency services were directing traffic while police and ambulance crews attended the scene.

Witnesses or those with dashcam footage of the accident have been urged to contact the police.
