Botswana sprint star, Letsile Tebogo, will be honoured by the government and institutions in the country for hoisting Botswana’s flag high at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Tebogo announced himself as one of the world’s sprinting stars after winning the intriguing 200m race on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
He became the first African to win gold at the event and, more significantly, his country’s first-ever gold medalist at the Olympics.
The win brought pride to the people of Botswana as the world acknowledged the country for Tebogo’s magnificent feat.
In that regard, the government is set to honour the 21-year-old with a 4-bedroom house, according to a report filed by Ghanaian journalist Fentuo Tahiru.
Additionally, the sprinter is set to earn 1 million Pula ($75,000) from a local company, $3,600 for reaching the finals of the 100m and 200m, and a sum of $260,000 from multiple institutions.
Following Letsile Tebogo’s triumph on Thursday, the government declared a public half-holiday-“an afternoon day-off” on Friday to celebrate the victory.
Tebogo is looking to help Botswana win yet another medal on the track, as he will compete in the Men’s 4x400m relay later today, August 10, 2024.
