A father who tortured his baby so severely that the child lost both legs will be kept in jail under new powers.
Anthony Smith was handed a ten-year sentence in 2018 for torturing his son, Tony Hudgell.
The boy, now seven, was just 41 days old when he suffered multiple fractures, dislocations and blunt trauma to the face.
The injuries led to organ failure, toxic shock and sepsis. He was then left untreated for ten days, resulting in both his legs having to be amputated.

Smith is due for release next month. But last night Justice Secretary Dominic Raab said he has blocked the move using new powers under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act introduced this year.
Mr Raab has referred his case to the Parole Board to review if he is safe to release. Earlier this month, Tony’s mother Jody Simpson, also jailed for ten years, had her case referred.
The decision was hailed by Boris Johnson, who met Tony after the boy raised £1.7million for Evelina London Children’s Hospital where he was treated. Mr Raab said: ‘I’ll do everything in my power to prevent another child enduring the abuse inflicted on Tony Hudgell.’
